Ireland’s resting state wins Cox Plate after protest | Sports

Australia’s most prestigious thoroughbred race was decided in the Steward Room, and State Of Rest won the $ 5 million WS Cox Plate after surviving the protest. The Irish Raider overtook Anamoe first to cross the line after a fierce duel on the Moonee Valley straight.

However, Anamoe jockey Craig Williams claimed that the final stage of interference sacrificed a particular three-year-old victory in a stunning age-appropriate weight contest. Williams fired in protest as the trial lasted more than 20 minutes before Steward dismissed his objection.

The winning margin in favor of State Of Rest was long-headed.

In the race that changed his complexion on the home turn, State Of Rest took the lead and Anamoe passed underneath. State Of Rest shifted the ground towards the rails and interfered with Anamoe, but Steward realized that the interference wasn’t enough to change the outcome.

Victory continued his love affair with the Australian race of young Irish trainer Joseph O’Brien. He joined his father Aidan O’Brien as a Cox Plate winner, and at the age of 29, he leads two Melbourne Cup winners.

Verry Elleegant took a minor position in a race that was robbed of a major draw card when his early favorite Zaaki was scratched due to rising temperatures.
