Instagram star Lee McMillan’s father Will talks about online bullying that afflicted his daughter

The father of a young woman who killed herself claims that online vandalism has mercilessly targeted her deadly daughter.

Lee MacMillan soared to social star when he recorded a van trip across Canada and South America with his Australian boyfriend Max Bidstrup.

The couple shared an Instagram account called @maxandlee_ and attracted tens of thousands of followers.

When the pair split in 2019, they shared an account and promoted their own social media venture.

It was then that cyberbullying and vandalism began aiming for the age of 28.

Her father Will and her sister Sasha spoke to 7NEWS.com.au from Bati, Canada on Friday morning.

They said Lee was the target of online commentators who benefited from “roasting” her on YouTube videos.

After that, his followers engaged in “stacking”.

“He started the story and posted a video two days before she killed her,” Will said.

“With Lee and YouTube, you get a 20-minute glimpse of what they want to see, but you don’t get the complete story.”

He said people hide behind social media anonymity to offend and abuse his daughter.

“I’m playing with those people.”

Max and Lee split up in 2019 after traveling together for several years.

They got things done in good condition and within a year Lee started taking a vacation again.

She traveled to Morocco with her friends in early 2020, before the pandemic broke out.

After they returned to MacMillan’s parents’ home and completed a 14-day quarantine, Lee and her friends went on different paths.

Will suspects this may have contributed to her depression.

“She wasn’t depressed for the rest of her life,” he said.

“Lee was a man. She loved being around others. COVID really made it difficult.”

During the pandemic, she began dating a man named Jordan Chiu from Santa Barbara, California.
