Greg Lynn stands in front of Magistrates’ Court in Sale, charged with murdering missing campers Russell Hill and Carol Clay.

The man charged with murdering the missing campers Russell Hill and Carol Clay first appeared in court.

Greg Lynn, 55, emerged via a videolink from his cell at the Sale Police Station in the eastern state on Friday morning.

The Caroline Springs man was sitting in his cell, wearing a face mask, and silent while listening to the proceedings.

He was remanded to appear in a trial at the Sale Administrative Court on May 31, next year.

He was charged with two murders on Thursday night.

A brief court hearing on Friday ended in just eight minutes.

Lynn is said to have killed Hill and Clay after a 70’s duo embarked on a camping trip to Wonangata on March 20, last year.

Hill first left Doruan’s house on March 19th and then gathered Clay from his Pakenham home on a white Toyota Land Cruiser.

The pair then spent the night at Howitt High Plains via Rikola before heading to the Wonangata Valley.

Hill, who didn’t tell his wife that he was with Clay, said he was last on HF radio the next day and said he was in the Wonangatta Valley in the Victoria Alps.

The next day, another camper van allegedly found Mr. Hill’s car showing signs of minor fire damage at a completely burned campsite near the Dry River Creek truck.

Since then, police have conducted extensive searches in the area, including detectives for missing units, local police, search and rescue teams, aviation units, dog units, and even the Australian Federal Police.

Lynn evacuated his job as a jet star pilot on Monday night after a flock of heavily armed police officers at a remote campsite at Arbuckle Junction, 1.5 hours south of Wonangatta in eastern states.

Lynn’s court appearance was the latest development in a fascinating 20-month case previously described by Victorian Police Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Bob Hill as the “most thorough and complex” criminal investigation in recent years.

Investigations surged two weeks ago when police released a photo of a blue four-wheel drive vehicle towing a trailer they believed could be related to the incident.

Police on Tuesday were subsequently seen pulling Lin’s 4WD for a forensic examination in Melbourne.

Investigators have established a new crime scene in the Greater Alps of Victoria to search for the bodies of Mr. Hill and Mr. Clay.

Forensic experts in the Missing Squad will begin refining the dense shrublands within a few days.

Lin did not apply for bail.
