Dolphins confirmed that State of Origin star Felise Kaufusi will join the club from 2023 as the first major NRL signature after being rejected by some of the most valuable forwards on the market.

When Christian Welch, Tino Fas Amaleaui, Reagan Campbell Gilard, Isaiah Papari and others choose to sign contracts elsewhere in 2023, the dolphins will lure big fish to Red Cliff by the end of the month. Hope seemed to fade. Or later.

But on Friday, the NRL’s latest team confirmed that Kaufushi had signed a three-year contract and finally won the man.

Terry Leader, CEO of the Dolphins NRL team, said he was pleased to see the Premier League champion Melbourne Storm ahead.

“It is imperative for dolphins to build a team that includes players of typical calibers, and Ferries certainly fits that pattern,” said the leader.

Readers said Kaufushi’s big gaming experience and local ties made him a perfect fit for the fledgling NRL side.

“He has played 12 Origin games in Queensland and represents Australia, so he will bring some important experience to the playgroup he is building to make his debut at the tournament,” he said. Told.

“The fact that he grew up in Bundaberg is also positive for the latest professional sports teams in Queensland.

“Ferry’s has been part of a very successful era for Storm Club in recent years, so I’m excited about the leadership and strong work ethic he brings to dolphins.”

Kaufushi will spend the next season in the Storm and have played his entire career at the NRL.

His 152 NRL appearances include two Grand Finals wins (2017 and 2020).

Kaufushi will be signed the day after Melbourne re-signs another of the premier forwards in Welch.

As a Queen’s Lander with proven leadership skills, Welch’s was associated with a move to Dolphins, but agreed to extend his contract to stay in Melbourne until the age of 31.

It is not yet known if Kaufushi’s teammate Brandon Mychal will move north to join him. The popular dummy half spent off-season spruking his products to rival clubs, but has signed with Storm until the end of 2022.
