Explosion at Yemen Airport “kills 6 people”

At least six people were killed and about 20 were injured in an explosion near the entrance to the international airport in Aden, a port city in southern Yemen, senior security and medical sources said, but whether the incident was an attack. Is not clear.

Airport officials said a light truck exploded at the outer gate of the airport, but local officials and two guards said the vehicle was carrying petroleum products.

The blast was strong and I heard it all over the city.

The windows of nearby residents were broken.

Aden is the temporary home of Yemen’s internationally recognized government and has fought for nearly seven years with the Houthi Group, which is affiliated with Iran, as part of a Saudi-backed coalition.

But tensions between the government and separatist groups in southern Yemen have boiled over the years within Aden itself.

The Government and the Southern Transitional Council (STC) are nominal allies under a Saudi-led coalition.

Earlier this month, a car bomb targeting a convoy carrying the city governor (STC member) in Aden killed at least six people and injured others.

The governor survived.

At least 22 people were killed in the December 2020 attack on Aden Airport.

An investigation by a team of UN experts concluded that the Houthi rebels were the cause of the missile-based attacks.

Southern instability complicated UN-led peace efforts to end the war in Yemen, which killed tens of thousands of people and needed help for 80 percent of the population.
