Arrested, charged with allegedly attacking lone wolf biker

The man charged with killing notorious gangster Yusuf Nazrioglu was shot dead last year as he returned home to his apartment in Sydney’s inner-western city.

Nazrioglu, 40, was shot in the chest and head in an underground car park in a unit block on Walker Street, Rhodes after emergency services answered a call at around 6:30 pm on 27 June. He was found severely injured.

The former biker, who was later acquitted of the murder of Comanchero boss Mick Howie in 2018, died in hospital the next morning.

Speaking to reporters at the time, Metropolitan Police Detective Martin Hayston claimed Nazrioglu was ambushed and shot on his way home.

A silver hatchback, allegedly used as a getaway vehicle, was found burned nearby.

Homicide Squad detectives, assisted by the Burwood Police Area Command, have launched an investigation into the Strike Force Clay Pinch. The inquiry then became part of an investigation by Task Force Erebus launched in response to a series of suspected organized crime-related shootings in Sydney months before Nazrioglu’s death.

After a 10-month long investigation, strike force detectives executed a search warrant at 6am Wednesday at three properties, including the Blair Atholl home in southwest Sydney where a 25-year-old man was arrested.

He was taken to Campbeltown Police Station and charged with murder.
