Former Labor Minister Eddie Obade, who was corrupt, went to jail to begin a seven-year prison sentence.

On Saturday morning, family and friends arrived to say goodbye to Obade’s house.

The 77-year-old left Hunters Hill grounds after 9 am, wearing a face mask, a shirt with a white collar, and a black jacket.

He towed a news helicopter and was taken to Silverwater Prison in the passenger seat of Range Rover.

Mr. Obade appeared at the Orthodontic Center in western Sydney around 10 am.

Upon arrival, he was to be strip-searched, medically examined, and quarantined for 14 days.

Earlier this week, Obade was sentenced to seven years in prison for plotting a $ 30 million mine license.

He was allowed two nights on strict conditional bail, but was ordered to appear in prison on Saturday morning.

Obade must serve for 3 years and 10 months before being eligible for parole.

His lawyer confirmed that he would challenge the conviction in the Criminal Appeals Court.

His son Moses Obade and former Labor colleague Ian McDonald were also imprisoned in a plot.

Three men pleaded not guilty to their accused role in the fraudulent bidding process for exploration licenses on land owned by the Obade family in the Bylong Valley, New South Wales.

The plot included the then Minister of Mines McDonald’s committing an illegal act for the financial benefit of the Obade family.

Judge Elizabeth Fullerton presided over a one-year judge-only trial in the Supreme Court and ruled in July that all three men were guilty of their role in conspiracy beyond reasonable doubt. ..

She was imprisoned for a combined trio of 21 years on Thursday, with 52-year-old Moses Obade serving at least three years and McDonald’s serving at 72 for at least five years.

Both men have indicated that they intend to appeal their convictions and convictions.
