Serving Lithgow Locals Attracts New Nurses

After working as a nursing assistant in a hospital, Arshdeep’s rewarding experience caring for the Lithgow community inspired her to pursue a nursing degree.

“The satisfaction that comes from serving and caring for patients is out of this world,” says Arshdeep.

She believes the beautiful neighborhood and supportive work environment were key factors in her decision to return to the hospital as one of the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District’s 2023 graduate nurse cohort.

“I was happy to have the opportunity to rejoin this rural setting. I look back.

“The supportive staff, plus the cooperation and support you get when you first enter the profession, is what makes me want to stay here. I think that’s the best part.”

Arshdeep will rotate first in the emergency department (ED), then in the operating room, then in the inpatient ward. She is thrilled with the variety of learning experiences each discipline offers.

“I enjoy the variety of cases that come from ED. You have to be prepared for anything and everything. I love the busy environment and of course the team!” she says.

“When you step into a real clinical setting, you realize you have the power to change people’s lives for the better. I am very proud of what I have.”
