“Northern Beach Police Area Command officers were patrolling the Manly area when they spoke with a 38-year-old man,” NSW Police said. They say they found it.”

Stewart was charged with possession of prohibited substances.

Stewart, a two-time premiership-winning full-back, worked as Manly’s mentor and positional coach. Along with his older brother Glenn, “Snake” has long been a Brookvale fan favorite.

The 38-year-old has scored 163 tries in 233 NRL games and represented NSW and Australia.

After retiring from football, Stewart also worked in the hospitality industry, splitting his time between Sydney and Melbourne.

A spokesperson for the Sea Eagles declined to comment, considering the incident is now a police matter.

He will appear in Manly District Court on Wednesday 19 April.
