New South Wales recorded 961 new locally acquired Covid-19 cases and 9 deaths as the state continued to fight the Delta variant.
NSW Prime Minister Gladys Beregicrian has announced that a major vaccine milestone has been achieved overnight.
Eighty-five percent of New South Wales residents over the age of 16 receive the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
Ms. Beregikrian said the state is shy about 60% of fully vaccinated people and believes that the goal will be achieved within 24 hours.
The prime minister said the spread of the virus in Western Sydney and Southwest Sydney was finally mitigated.
Nonetheless, New South Wales Director of Health Protection Jeremy McCanarty said the most cases occurred in the suburbs of Auburn, Gilford, Punchbowl Maryland, Penrith, Bankstown and Liverpool. ..
The 961 new infection on Sunday has pushed the total number of NSW coronavirus cases to over 58,000 since the outbreak of the pandemic.
Dr. McAnulty confirmed that 1146 New South Wales residents are currently hospitalized in Covid-19, including 222 in the intensive care unit.
