Controversial races leave title rivals equal in points

By Rhys Vandersyde

Immediately after the fierce battle in Saudi Arabia, the battle for lead in the F1 World Championship intensified.

Lewis Hamilton won and Mercedes scored the same points as Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who finished second, and headed for the final round of this year’s championship.

The tension was high towards the race, but with two red flag stops and numerous VSC interruptions, the pair was actively exchanged during the race.

Hamilton took the lead at the start of the first race, but the race stopped on lap 13 after Haas’s Mick Schumacher spun and hit the wall hard on turn 22.

The safety car started in the accident on lap 10, and most of the tire field pits were seen. However, Verstappen maintained his advantage when Schumacher’s red flag was set on the race to allow him to repair the hit barrier.

The full restart caused confusion, and Hamilton and Verstappen were controversial when they negotiated the first corner of the circuit.

Behind them, close quarters saw Charles Leclerc spinning Sergio Perez. Ferrari’s driver was able to continue, but a second Red Bull hit the wall and ended the Mexican race.

George Russell (Williams) was excavated by Nikita Mazepin (Haas) when the field was checked behind the first incident. Finish both races.

A second red flag was called to clean up the damaged cars and debris.

The race was a full restart for the second time, and this time Verstappen legally gained an advantage and jumped to the top.

However, the controversy continued. After Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel hit each other on lap 36, VSC was called in to clean up more debris.

At the restart, Hamilton and Verstappen proceeded side by side on Turn 1 and both left the circuit in a lead battle.

To avoid the penalty, Red Bull instructed Verstappen to give Hamilton a place. However, when slowing to overtake Hamilton, the Mercedes driver drove behind Red Bull.

Both drivers continued with limited damage, but a fierce exchange continued before Verstappen returned the lead and Hamilton won.

Despite being penalized for 5 seconds in one of the incidents, Verstappen remained in second place. The battle for the final spot on the podium was decided by the checkered flag, and Valtteri Bottas sneaked past Esteban Ocon in the last few seconds of the race.

Australia’s Daniel Richard is 5 in McLaren ahead of Pierre Guthrie (Alpha Tauri), Charles Leclerc (Ferrari), Carlos Sainz (Ferrari), Antonio Jobinatti (Alpha Romeo) and Land Norris (McLaren). I won the place.

The Formula 1 World Championship is now heading to Abu Dhabi for this year’s title deciding round.
