Rosebud, Mornington Peninsula: Missing paddleboarding teenager found

Four teenagers who went missing off the coast of Victoria have been found more than 12 hours after they washed ashore in Port Phillip Bay.

Two men, aged 18, and two women, ages 18 and 19, are believed to have used inflatable paddleboards on Monday at Rosebud Beach off Point Nepean Road on the Mornington Peninsula.

A frantic search was launched after passers-by spotted the teenager’s things on the beach around 8 p.m.

Victoria Police confirmed that all four were found alive on Swan Island off Queenscliff on Tuesday morning.

The island houses a military training facility operated by the Department of Defense.

Victoria Ambulance confirmed the teenager was taken to Geelong Hospital where he is in stable condition with no apparent injuries.

Deputy Inspector Ian Pregner said four teenagers from Glen Waverley clung to two paddleboards before arriving on the island.

“They were very relieved to lie on the very cold, dry land,” he said.

“You can see the smile on my face. It’s quite sensational that they were found safe overnight and are still being searched.”

Pregner had previously said that the parents were “pretty distraught” while their children remained missing.

It is believed that the group had just finished their VCE and were celebrating the end of the year.

The search was initially suspended at 4:00 am Tuesday due to inclement weather, but resumed at 6:00 am.
