Coles customers complain about expensive a2 milk as cost of living soars

Coles’ customers were shocked by the skyrocketing prices of commodities.

Savvy supermarket customers took to social media to vent their shock when they noticed that a popular dairy product was nearly $10.

Shoppers said they were stunned to learn that a 3L container of a2 milk costs $9.80 at Coles.

She explained that it wasn’t immediately obvious as the price had been reduced to 98 cents for a 3L container.

“Normal a2 milk is $9.80,” she asked.

A member of the Markdown Addicts Facebook group told the woman that she unfortunately has the right price tag.

“Yes, A2 is 9.80. That’s all I can put up with,” said one social media user.

“Yeah, it’s expensive milk. I pay $9.50 for 3.5L at Costco,” added another.

Members of the Markdown Addict noted that price increases were not limited to a2 dairy products.

“Yeah, even home-brand milk these days is almost $5 for three liters,” they said.

Another said he had to switch his family to alternative milks because buying dairy was “so expensive.”

“(It’s) made by precious cows?” quipped a Facebook user.

The increase in the price of a2 milk is not recent, but is understood to be the result of rising costs over the past two years.

The a2 Milk Company and its dairy producers have been impacted by increased manufacturing, transportation, labor and input costs since the start of the pandemic.

Cost pressures are intensifying due to natural disasters such as ongoing floods that have pushed up the cost of milk production.

Currently, a 3L container of a2 milk costs about $10.

Milk companies aren’t the only ones raising prices, but it is believed that most of the a2 price increase will be passed on to dairy farmers.

Coles did not respond to a request for comment.

Woolworths also has a2 milk in stock at $9.80, but declined to comment on higher costs.

A2 milk is considered a premium product because it is sourced from cows specially selected to naturally produce milk that contains only A2 beta-casein protein.
