Changes to COVID-19 quarantine period from Friday

Anyone who tests positive must comply with the NSW Health Factsheet.

  • If the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) is positive, register this on the Service NSW website.
  • Immediately self-isolate for 5 days from the day you tested positive. If you have persistent acute symptoms such as sore throat, runny nose, cough, or shortness of breath, you should self-isolate for 7 days from the date of your test.
  • Do not enter certain high-risk settings for 7 days after testing positive. This includes healthcare (hospital facilities, public clinics, and private medical facilities), residential aged care, and residential disability care facilities.
  • Tell anyone you live with that you tested positive and self-isolate as much as possible.
  • Tell people you’ve been with 2 days before they started having symptoms or 2 days before they tested positive (whichever comes first) that they have COVID-19.

As COVID-19 can be contagious for up to 10 days after testing positive, NSW Health will take the following precautions after a person is released from isolation for up to 10 days after testing positive: strongly recommended.

  • Wear a mask when in an indoor environment other than your own home
  • Avoid health care, aged care, disabled, and correctional facilities unless medical care is needed or an emergency
  • Avoid large or crowded indoor gatherings that come into contact with groups of people who do not live together
  • If you need to attend indoor gatherings with people you do not live with, perform a rapid antigen test.Do not attend meetings if your results are positive
  • Talk to your employer before returning to work.Employers are responsible for completing their own risk assessments and may be required to take additional steps before employees return to work
  • Work or study at home as much as possible.

Starting tomorrow, people will no longer be required to wear face masks on domestic commercial flights.
