Candidate for Canadian Army Commander accused of sexual misconduct | Canada

The Canadian Army postponed the appointment of the next Army commander after allegations of sexual misconduct against the man elected for that role. This is the latest in a series of senior officers being investigated for illegal activity.

Lieutenant Trevor Kadu was to take office as the head of the Canadian Army at a ceremony in early September. However, the event was canceled after the military learned of a “historical claim” to Kadu.

In a joint statement, the Defense Ministry and the Canadian Armed Forces said Deputy Defense Secretary Wayne Eyre was informed of the investigation two days before Kadu was scheduled to take command of the army.

On Wednesday, gendarmerie confirmed that they were investigating Kadu, but said no further details would be provided.

Cadieu denied the claim.

“The claim is false, but it needs to be scrutinized to reveal the truth,” he said in a statement. “I believe that all complaints, regardless of the rank of the accused, should be investigated professionally.”

Knowing the investigation, Mr. Kadiu said he had asked the country’s interim top soldiers to “consider choosing another leader” for the military.

In recent months, many senior brass in the military have been involved in investigating sexual misconduct.

In February, gendarmerie began investigating allegations of sexual misconduct with former Secretary of Defense Jonathan Vance. Vance was charged with obstructing justice in connection with an investigation into illegal activity.

Admiral Art McDonald, who succeeded Vence, was also the subject of an investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct. Gendarmerie says he has not found evidence to support prosecuting McDonald’s on leave.

Maj Gen Dany Fortin, responsible for the country’s vaccine deployment, was formally charged with sexual assault in August.

Maj. Gen. Peter Doe, who provided a personality reference to soldiers who were once convicted of sexual assault, was recently appointed to assist the military in responding to sexual misconduct. He was separated from work after the wrath of the masses.
