President Joe Biden says the United States will double Pfizer’s donations to developing countries and share about a billion doses with other parts of the world.
The enhanced effort is to help achieve the goal of immunizing 70% of the world’s population by the end of next year.
He pledged at the Virtual COVID-19 Summit, a bystander of the UN General Assembly, and called on wealthy nations to take more action to control the pandemic.
The World Health Organization says that only 15 percent of promised vaccine donations from wealthy countries have been delivered.
The United States supplies more than 100 countries with 160 million shots, which represents more donations than the world combined.
