Former US President Donald Trump raises his fist as he departs Trump Tower in New York on April 13, 2023.

Donald Trump returned to New York on Thursday to answer questions in a civil lawsuit that accused the former president and his three children of business fraud.

The closed-door deposition comes a week after Trump’s historic arraignment on criminal charges in a Manhattan courtroom in a separate case.

Leaving Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue just after 9:30 a.m. (1330 GMT) and arriving at James’ office in lower Manhattan around 10 a.m., Trump pumped his fist.

“This civil lawsuit is ridiculous. Just like all other election interference lawsuits have been filed against me,” he wrote on the social media site Truth Social.

Last September, James sued Trump, Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump and Ivanka Trump, alleging “incredible” fraud at the Trump Organization.

Her lawsuit involved years of lying to tax collectors, lenders and insurance companies in plans to routinely misrepresent the value of the organization’s assets in order for them to enrich themselves. I claim.

The case has been criticized almost unanimously by Republican officials, including Congressional leaders who asked Democrat Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg to testify before Congress.

James, also an elected Democrat, is demanding Trump pay a fine of at least $250 million.

No criminal charges will be filed from her case, which is scheduled to go to trial later this year.

Trump faces numerous state, federal and congressional investigations that threaten to complicate his bid to regain the presidency.

They include his efforts to reverse the 2020 election loss in Georgia, his alleged mishandling of classified documents taken out of the White House, and his January 6, 2021 storming of the U.S. Capitol. includes involvement in

A civil trial in the sexual assault and defamation lawsuit filed against Trump by former magazine columnist E. Gene Carroll is set to begin in New York later this month.
