The Western Sydney Wanderers have been sensationally knocked out of the FFA Cup by the NPL New South Wales Club APIA Leichhardt.

1987 National Soccer League champion APIA advanced to the Cup quarterfinals by beating the Wanderers 2-1 at the Lycart Oval on Tuesday night.

This is the second time in FFA Cup history that APIA defeated Melbourne Victory three years ago to defeat A-League opposition.

Jason Romero doubled the host’s advantage in a long-distance relationship after Tyson Diaz gave APIA a lead in the first half, removing Wanderers goalkeeper Daniel Margush from the line.

Ten minutes later, a deflection strike from wanderers defender Tas Murdkoutas cut APIA’s lead in half.

However, APIA was held in front of fans, and Wanderers coach Carl Robinson paid a lot of money to rest many first-choice players.

Elsewhere, Ben Waine’s goal gave Wellington Phoenix 32 wins to Western United in the 1-0 FFA Cup at Geelong’s GMHBA Stadium.
