Guilty plea in Harbor Bridge crash

live

A man will be sentenced for driving a stolen four-wheel drive vehicle over Sydney’s Harbor Bridge that caused traffic chaos for hours after three vehicles crashed and went up in flames.

On the busy morning of March 7, 2022, peak hour traffic was halted for three hours, and Christopher Walker was dragged from the wreckage just before a fireball engulfed his car.

The 20-year-old appeared in Downing Center District Court on Thursday and was found guilty of four counts, including dangerous driving that caused serious injury and assaulting a 27-year-old man for stealing a Toyota Kluger in the Sydney CBD. Admitted.

He also pleaded guilty to driving a car under the influence of illegal drugs and driving in a rage to cause personal injury.

While traveling over a bridge, after colliding with an oncoming van, the 4WD overturned, causing the van to rebound and collide with a third vehicle.

Two other drivers were also injured and all three were taken to hospital.

Walker was arrested and charged in a hospital bed two days after the incident.

On Thursday, Crown Attorney Stella Calderbank announced that four charges had been dropped, including negligent driving, drunken driving, bodily injury while driving, and aggravated assault.

Walker’s attorney, Anozhi Anastasius, told Judge Brett Shields that the facts had not yet been agreed between the defense and the prosecution.

Both parties have until July 27th to resolve this issue.

The matter will then be remanded to the district court to set a date for judgment on Walker.

The 20-year-old is out on bail.
