The southbound Mitchell Freeway is expected to remain closed for several hours after a serious accident on Tuesday afternoon, with at least one fighting for life.
The crash occurred around 4 pm near Lake Monger Drive. Police say the two cars collided when the truck slowed down.
Up to three people are believed to have been seriously injured and have been taken to the hospital. It is believed that at least one of the injured has a life-threatening injury.
“It will take some time to get through the crash site, and obviously we don’t know the extent of the injuries to the people involved in the crash,” Vic Hassy said at the scene.
The latest information from the main road is that the highway between Hatton Street and the Graham Farmer Freeway is closed. According to police, the closure will last for several hours.
Drivers heading south on the freeway are circumvented around the crash from the exit of Hatton Road.
The driver stuck between Hatton Street and the crash site is bypassing the Leader Building.
At this time, drivers are being asked to avoid the leader building area.
Emergency, towing services and traffic management teams are on site.
Police are diverting heavy traffic to Hatton Road.
As a result, bus services are also currently delayed throughout the network.
