A special Qantas flight to see the supermoon and lunar eclipse

Australia is offering an exciting new way to see the supermoon and lunar eclipse up close when they surface later this month.

Qantas has announced a special moon viewing as the latest and most unusual flight experience.

On May 26, the flying kangaroo will make a three-hour scenic flight over Sydney, then climb to an altitude of 40,000 to observe the last supermoon and lunar eclipse of the year.

This is the first time an airline has implemented a total eclipse since the Boeing 747 took passengers on a 14-hour round trip to track the total eclipse in 2003.

The voyage departing Sydney will take place on one of Qantas’ Boeing 787 Dreamliners, behind some of the airline’s recent one-off flights, including mystery flights and scenic low-level flybys. There is.

Experience tickets are $ 499 for economy, $ 899 for premium economy, $ 1499 for business, and fares will be available on Wednesday.

About 130 tickets will be on sale.

Qantas Chief Customer Officer Stephanie Tally said recent mystery flights sold out in 15 minutes, demonstrating that Australians are looking for a unique flight experience.

“I’m very excited to make a scenic flight of the Supermoon. The 787 has the largest windows of any airliner, making it ideal for viewing the moon,” said Tally.

“I find this flight very appealing to anyone who is passionate about astronomy, science, space photography, aviation, or who wants to do something a little further away from the world.”

The special feature of the lunar eclipse that matches the supermoon is that the moon turns red against the night sky.

CSIRO helps Qantas pilots determine the best flight path for the night and provide passengers with ample visibility.

The journey is expected to cross the Pacific Ocean, and CSIRO astronomer Dr. Vanessamos will fly to provide more information about the unusual sight.

At around 11:50 am on May 26, the moon is closest to Earth and the lunar eclipse is set to occur between 9:11 pm and 9:25 pm.

The airline is also set to include moon-themed menus such as space cocktails and supermoon cakes.
