A-League: Jet was shaken by two more positive COVID tests | Newcastle Herald

News, local news,

Newcastle Jets has recorded two more COVID-19 cases, and the male and female teams have been evacuated from training until all athlete and staff tests have been returned. Midfielder Angus Thurgate did a positive test on Tuesday, and Sirgate’s housemate reserve goalkeeper Noah James also gave a positive result. The club’s A-League Women’s team is also affected. It is understood that defender Kirstifenton tested positive after Sirgate complained of symptoms on Monday and the entire female team was ordered to undergo a COVID-19 test. Jets has not yet confirmed the identity of COVID-positive players. However, it is understood that all players in the club are fully vaccinated. Newcastle is currently waiting for guidance from the Australian Pro League and NSW Health on whether players will be able to return to training and continue their match this weekend. The club has not yet received test results from all players on both teams. The women who last trained on Monday are facing more pressing problems as they plan to play against the Western Sydney Wanderers on Friday. The men’s team will move to Campbelltown on Sunday afternoon to play against Macarthur FC. The Australian Pro League was contacted for comment on the protocol for both men’s and women’s equipment, but did not respond. On Wednesday, Hunter New England Health confirmed that there were 827 active cases in the area.
