Man arrested after shooting dead Taha Saberg in front of son outside gymnasium at Sydney airport

A man was arrested at Sydney airport last month for allegedly shooting him dead outside a martial arts gym in western Sydney.

The 26-year-old man was taken into custody around 3:30 pm on Sunday as he was about to leave the country, according to New South Wales Police. He has not yet been charged.

In the early hours of March 2nd, Taha Saba and her son were in the parking lot of Elite Fight Force Gym on Carlingford Street, Sefton.

At the time, police said a 40-year-old man had been shot multiple times in his car while his son was watching, and they suspected the incident was linked to organized crime.

Paramedics rescued Mr. Sabah, but he died at the scene.

“It’s terrifying to think that a 12-year-old boy had to witness his father being shot like this.

“I feel sick. [The offenders are] Callous, impudent, and with little disregard for human life. ”

A Mazda 3 was used as the getaway vehicle and was driven to Magdera Street in the nearby Biron suburb before being set on fire.

“We believe this was a targeted attack. It has the hallmarks of organized crime killings,” Superintendent Doherty said.

“He was associated with people who were well known to the police and who had a strong criminal activity associated with them.”

At the time, family and friends posted on social media that his death was due to an “identity mistake.”

Before Mr Sabbagh’s death, public shootings linked to organized crime had settled in Sydney.

But his killing was the first that police attributed to a gang war since August 2022.

The man is at Surry Hills Police Station and is helping the police with their investigation.

Strike Force Pemack, with the support of the Bankstown Police Area Command and the Southwest Metropolitan Area, was formed to investigate the circumstances of the shooting with detectives from the State Criminal Command’s Homicide Investigation Unit.
