An 8-year-old boy swimming in a river on the island of Borneo, Indonesia, was killed by a crocodile.
The boy and his younger brother were swimming in East Kalimantan while their father was watching near his house on Wednesday when his child was swallowed by a crocodile, according to a local search and rescue agency known as Octaviant. An official said.
The child’s father jumped to help him, but the reptiles fled, Octaviant added.
“He chased the crocodile and hit it with his bare hands, but he couldn’t keep up,” he said.
On Thursday, locals in the Kuta Timur district caught a 6-meter crocodile and found the boy’s intact body in it.
A video posted on YouTube showed a rescue worker pulling his body out of the crocodile’s stomach, watching over his family and crying.
According to Octaviant, the river is known as a crocodile habitat.
“But they often took a bath and went to the river to get some cooking water,” he said.
