World Cup 2022: Matthew Leckie’s Wikipedia page hilariously changed after Socceroos win

After Australia defeated Denmark in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, football fans made some hilarious changes to Matthew Leckie’s Wikipedia page.

The Sakhas forward’s page was edited on Thursday to read, “Leckie is married to Game and fathers one son named Denmark.”

It was Leckie’s solo goal that gave the football looses a 1-0 win against Denmark early Thursday morning.

The win advanced Australia to the last 16 of the tournament for the second time in its history.

A Wikipedia edit of the joke has now been removed from the site, but this isn’t the first time pranksters have targeted soccer players during the World Cup.

Fellow forward Mitchell Duke’s Wikipedia page has been altered to state that he has “a son named Tunisia” after scoring Australia’s winning goal against Tunisia on Saturday night.

An anonymous editor also claimed that Duke was “raised by kangaroos in the Outback and often fought with kangaroos, especially over delicious sausages at barbecues.”

These edits were also removed from the site shortly after posting.

Excited fans took to social media to celebrate Australia’s World Cup success as the Socceroos headed into the knockout stage.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese got a lot of reactions to his tweet congratulating the Socceroos, with many calling for a holiday to celebrate the victory.

Others wondered if the Australian-born Danish princess thought the match was conflicting.

But it wasn’t just kudos to the Australians, some had good things to say about Denmark’s performance.

Australia will face Argentina in the Round of 16 on Sunday morning.
